1. Unnamed woman traditionally associated with Salome

Mark 6:17 For Herod himself had sent men who arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, because Herod had married her. 6:18 For John had been telling Herod, "It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife." 6:19 And Herodias had a grudge against him, and wanted to kill him. But she could not, 6:20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he protected him. When he heard him, he was greatly perplexed; and yet he liked to listen to him.

6:21 But an opportunity came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his courtiers and officers and for the leaders of Galilee. 6:22 When his daughter Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his guests; and the king said to the girl, "Ask me for whatever you wish, and I will give it." 6:23 And he solemnly swore to her, "Whatever you ask me, I will give you, even half of my kingdom." 6:24 She went out and said to her mother, "What should I ask for?" She replied, "The head of John the baptizer." 6:25 Immediately she rushed back to the king and requested, "I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter." 6:26 The king was deeply grieved; yet out of regard for his oaths and for the guests, he did not want to refuse her. 6:27 Immediately the king sent a soldier of the guard with orders to bring John's head. He went and beheaded him in the prison, 6:28 brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl. Then the girl gave it to her mother. 6:29 When his disciples heard about it, they came and took his body, and laid it in a tomb.

Matthew 14:3 For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, 14:4 because John had been telling him, "It is not lawful for you to have her." 14:5 Though Herod wanted to put him to death, he feared the crowd, because they regarded him as a prophet.

14:6 But when Herod's birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced before the company, and she pleased Herod 14:7 so much that he promised on oath to grant her whatever she might ask.

14:8 Prompted by her mother, she said, "Give me the head of John the Baptist here on a platter." 14:9 The king was grieved, yet out of regard for his oaths and for the guests, he commanded it to be given; 14:10 he sent and had John beheaded in the prison. 14:11 The head was brought on a platter and given to the girl, who brought it to her mother. 14:12 His disciples came and took the body and buried it; then they went and told Jesus.

2. An Unnamed Woman who Anoints Jesus

Mark 14:3 While he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at the table, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment of nard, and she broke open the jar and poured the ointment on his head. 14:4 But some were there who said to one another in anger, "Why was the ointment wasted in this way? 14:5 For this ointment could have been sold for more than three hundred denarii, and the money given to the poor." And they scolded her. 14:6 But Jesus said, "Let her alone; why do you trouble her? She has performed a good service for me. 14:7 For you always have the poor with you, and you can show kindness to them whenever you wish; but you will not always have me. 14:8 She has done what she could; she has anointed my body beforehand for its burial. 14:9 Truly I tell you, wherever the good news is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her."

Matthew 26:6 Now while Jesus was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, 26:7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very costly ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table. 26:8 But when the disciples saw it, they were angry and said, "Why this waste? 26:9 For this ointment could have been sold for a large sum, and the money given to the poor." 26:10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, "Why do you trouble the woman? She has performed a good service for me. 26:11 For you always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me. 26:12 By pouring this ointment on my body she has prepared me for burial. 26:13 Truly I tell you, wherever this good news is proclaimed in the whole world, what she has done will be told in remembrance of her."

3. An Unnamed Canaanite/Syrophoenician Woman

Mark 7:24 From there he set out and went away to the region of Tyre. He entered a house and did not want anyone to know he was there. Yet he could not escape notice, 7:25 but a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came and bowed down at his feet. 7:26 Now the woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 7:27 He said to her, "Let the children be fed first, for it is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." 7:28 But she answered him, "Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs." 7:29 Then he said to her, "For saying that, you may go--the demon has left your daughter." 7:30 So she went home, found the child lying on the bed, and the demon gone.

Matthew 15:21 Jesus left that place and went away to the district of Tyre and Sidon. 15:22 Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came out and started shouting, "Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David; my daughter is tormented by a demon." 15:23 But he did not answer her at all. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, "Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us." 15:24 He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 15:25 But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." 15:26 He answered, "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." 15:27 She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." 15:28 Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish." And her daughter was healed instantly.

4. An Unnamed Samaritan woman

John 4:5 So [Jesus] came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot  of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 4:6 Jacob's well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey,  was sitting by the well. It was about noon. 4:7 A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to  her, "Give me a drink." 4:8 (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) 4:9 The Samaritan woman said to him, "How is it that you, a  Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?" (Jews do not  share things in common with Samaritans.) 4:10 Jesus answered her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who  it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would  have asked him, and he would have given you living water." 4:11 The woman said to him, "Sir, you have no bucket, and the  well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 4:12 Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the  well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it?" 4:13 Jesus said to her, "Everyone who drinks of this water will  be thirsty again, 4:14 but those who drink of the water that I will give them will  never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become  in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life." 4:15 The woman said to him, "Sir, give me this water, so that  I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw  water." 4:16 Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come back." 4:17 The woman answered him, "I have no husband." Jesus said  to her, "You are right in saying, 'I have no husband'; 4:18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now  is not your husband. What you have said is true!" 4:19 The woman said to him, "Sir, I see that you are a prophet. 4:20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you say that  the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem." 4:21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe me, the hour is coming  when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain  nor in Jerusalem. 4:22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know,  for salvation is from the Jews. 4:23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers  will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father  seeks such as these to worship him. 4:24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in  spirit and truth." 4:25 The woman said to him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who  is called Christ). "When he comes, he will proclaim all  things to us." 4:26 Jesus said to her, "I am he, the one who is speaking to  you." 4:27 Just then his disciples came. They were astonished that  he was speaking with a woman, but no one said, "What do  you want?" or, "Why are you speaking with her?" 4:28 Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city.  She said to the people, 4:29 "Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done!  He cannot be the Messiah, can he?" 4:30 They left the city and were on their way to him. 4:31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, "Rabbi, eat something." 4:32 But he said to them, "I have food to eat that you do not  know about." 4:33 So the disciples said to one another, "Surely no one has  brought him something to eat?" 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of him who  sent me and to complete his work. 4:35 Do you not say, 'Four months more, then comes the harvest'?  But I tell you, look around you, and see how the fields  are ripe for harvesting. 4:36 The reaper is already receiving wages and is gathering fruit  for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 4:37 For here the saying holds true, 'One sows and another reaps.' 4:38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others  have labored, and you have entered into their labor." 4:39 Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of  the woman's testimony, "He told me everything I have ever  done." 4:40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay  with them; and he stayed there two days. 4:41 And many more believed because of his word. 4:42 They said to the woman, "It is no longer because of what  you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves,  and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world."

5. The Synoptic Gospels on Jesus’ Teachings on Divorce

Matthew 5:31 "It was also said, 'Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.' 5:32 But I say to you that anyone who divorces his wife, except on the ground of unchastity, causes her to commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

Luke 16:18 "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and whoever marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

Mark 10:2 Some Pharisees came, and to test him they asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" 10:3 He answered them, "What did Moses command you?" 10:4 They said, "Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her." 10:5 But Jesus said to them, "Because of your hardness of heart he wrote this commandment for you. 10:6 But from the beginning of creation, 'God made them male and female.' 10:7 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, 10:8 and the two shall become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one flesh. 10:9 Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." 10:10 Then in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 10:11 He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her; 10:12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery."

Matthew 19:3 Some Pharisees came to him, and to test him they asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any cause?" 19:4 He answered, "Have you not read that the one who made them at the beginning 'made them male and female,' 19:5 and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh'? 19:6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate." 19:7 They said to him, "Why then did Moses command us to give a certificate of dismissal and to divorce her?" 19:8 He said to them, "It was because you were so hard-hearted that Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. 19:9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for unchastity, and marries another commits adultery."
